Asia is rapidly rising in the global financial system, driven by economic growth, expanding capital markets, while facing increasing climate risks. Hong Kong is positioning itself as a leading hub for green and sustainable finance through policy innovation and market development. This event explores whether Asia is the next frontier in sustainable finance, bringing together finance experts from different segments. It will examine how shifting geopolitics influence the role of Asia in sustainable finance and highlight policy frameworks enabling low-carbon transition and climate adaptation, including taxonomies, transparency standards, and green bond initiatives.

Swiss Sustainable Finance (SSF) contributes an industry perspective to ensure relevance for investors and financial institutions. The Nature Value at Risk (NVaR) framework, developed by GIST Impact, is based on European Central Bank guidance, and research and collaboration with the London School of Economics and the University of Oxford, quantifies how ecosystem degradation could impact economic output and corporate portfolios.

NVaR estimates the share of a company’s production, revenue, and earnings that is exposed to the degradation of critical ecosystem services—such as clean water, pollination, and flood protection—across its operations and supply chain.

Impact measurement is the process of assessing the social and environmental effects generated by an investment, product, or activity, alongside its financial performance. A growing number of tools and models help finance practitioners quantify, monitor, report, and compare impact, supporting portfolio management and performance. In this edition of our Tools Session series, we will present three impact tools that already serve the market.

WWF’s Risk Filters 3.0 expands nature-risk assessment beyond physical and reputational risks to include regulatory deficiency, enabling users to examine local nature conditions and the strength of national legal and governance frameworks. In addition, MSCI will present its nature-related risk datasets for corporates and investors, which are built on the WWF Risk Filter models, to support financial nature risk assessment.
